Stylish subcompact SUV designed for the audience of the Old World. It is built on a Yaris hatchback chassis and can be equipped with all-wheel drive.
The car, the prototype of which on the eve of the «glow» with body panels from the previous generation Yaris, made its debut on the Internet. It is called Yaris Cross, but the resemblance to the soplatform five-door hatchback, the namesake, is very arbitrary. Rather, some associations with the larger C-HR crossover and, of course, RAV4 beg for it. Corresponding associations cause a characteristic bend of the rear pillar and its color separation. In general, the car turned out to be pretty and recognizable. Designers from Japan and Europe sought to combine the vibrant style and practicality. They definitely succeeded.
In terms of size, the novelty is superior to the “regular” Yaris — its length is 4180 mm, its wheelbase is 2560 mm. For comparison, the hatchback is 240 mm shorter with an identical wheelbase, but 20 mm narrower and 90 mm lower. Cross clearance is 30 mm larger.
An interesting feature of the Yaris Cross will be an all-wheel-drive transmission, which is far from all SUVs of size class B. The car will be available with a hybrid power plant with a total capacity of 116 hp, which includes a three-cylinder 1.5-liter engine and an electric motor on the rear axle, which will not be in the single-drive version.
Production will begin at a plant in French Valenciennes. It is planned to produce 150 thousand copies annually, but the timing of the start of sales has not yet been announced. ©
